Objekt of our Desires

Objekt is one of those stores that one could just get lost in when looking for African inspired items. This store has been a great champion in representing local designs and we love the items they manage to source. In the above image you can spot the Zulu Mama chair which we once featured on this blog. Next time you are looking for local individual pieces, and happen to be in the Parktown North area, pop into Objekt.

Objekt: 32 Seventh Avenue, Parktown North, Johannesburg.

Peace in downtown Jozi

I must have mentioned it before, but here it goes again - I love the new apartments in downtown Jozi. They really are the epitome of new space living for central cities. I spotted this home by Kudzi on Elle Decor (I think).  He has taken everyday, utilitarian items such as cardboard boxes, and made them a bed-base! I never would have thought of it, but I am the first to admit that it actually works. The other items that bring together the whole theme to the room are the side lamp by local designer Adriaan Hugo, and the lovable PEACE rug by Dokter and Misses.

Adventures at Blue Collar White Collar

For this fashion friday, we look to the unconventional. Blue Collar White Collar is a tailored shirt store not for the mainstream. Their approach to shirt making is what I would term conservative-quarky. The designer Paul van der Spuy ensures that each range has its own adventure, with little touches of playful details.

Kaross Cafe Outdoor Eatery

For the last few weeks of summer here in South Africa, we suggest you try out some outdoor eatery venues. Here is one that we came across - Kaross Cafe. It's out in Limpopo and is set in a courtyard with large trees. In the vicinity there is also a craft area selling some great work from local artisans.

Inspired by Down South

I have been thinking of doing a little upgrade to our home and have turned to the Down South book by Paul Duncan. The photographs taken by Fritz von der Schulenburg in the book are really inspirational.

Now, moving from being inspired to planning....
